Free ITIL V3 Tutorials
Written by David Noel-Davies

ImageWell, I thought it was about time I addressed the issue of ITIL  v3 compliancy. Working in many organisations has brought to light the 'selective' nature of some managers and organisations, it would seem that some will pick and choose parts of the ITIL framework that will solve a particular problem and after painstakingly implementing it, are left wanting, unfulfilled, and generally believing that ITIL doesn't work.

ITIL works, and works well, as a framework and as a methodology, but it has to be whole, adopted and implemented, good and bad, A tripod with only two legs doesn't work, the same applies to ITIL! if there are areas in your systems and processes that are less than functional only by implementation of the WHOLE framework will you firstly be able to see the gaping whole, and secondly be ably to fix it.

So I will be dedicating a new section with weekly updates and training to ITContractors.org that will offer a hand holding trip through the ITIL v3 framework. For the very virginal I will lead you through a 101 class on DONTrtfm.com and also on MSExchangelibrary.com , for the more hardcore of you, the main guts of it will be in a new section here on ITContractors.org.

Automatic script to delete old files
Written by David Noel-Davies
Monday, 22 September 2008

ImageIn many organizations, users are given access to network drives on a file or print server on which they can store documents. but many users create folders and files indiscriminately. and as you probably know within a few months, these folders and files accounted for several gigabits of storage space.

Moving extraneous files and folders is time consuming at best and it uses time that could well be better spent with more proactive tasks that are sitting in your to do list! Administrators typically manually delete old files, which requires opening each subfolder and checking file dates.
